Alpha Level 1

The goal is to teach you airway management, which will provide the foundation for providing safe sedation or anesthesia.  Learn how to place and hold a face mask, ventilate an apneic patient, place airway adjuncts, place laryngeal mask airways, and intubate live patients.

The most common and preventable catastrophes in anesthesia are airway in nature.

  • Learn how to interpret the vital signs monitor with an emphasis on capnography.
  • Learn how to safely use and maximize the benefits of narcotics for sedation and anesthesia.
  • Prepare yourself for the management of sedation and anesthetic related emergencies on the SimMan™ simulator.
  • Refine and improve your venipuncture techniques and get comfortable using alternate sites (i.e. hands and feet).
